DataTables.Settings

DataTables settings object.

Description

DataTables stores the configuration and data for each table in a settings object. The structure of this object is considered to be private in terms of the DataTables API and reading or writing to the values in the object is not supported. The property names and values contained within the object can, will and do change between versions!

Based on the above warning you might be scared off from the object entirely, but actually it can be quite useful. As it contains the information needed to describe a DataTable fully, DataTables will often pass this object into callback methods to provide a description of the table in question which can then be used with an API constructor (see DataTables.Api) to create a new API object for the table. For example:

var api = new $.fn.dataTable.Api( settings );

The above will create an API instance for the table that is referenced by the settings object in question.

Consider a more complete example using drawCallback:

        var api = new $.fn.dataTable.Api( settings );

        // Output the data for the visible rows to the browser's console
        // You might do something more useful with it!
        console.log( api.rows( {page:'current'} ).data() );
    }
} );
