If I am understanding correctly, if the session has timed out and the user hits your ajax source file, then you are outputting a json object to denote the session has expired?

You can override the buttons as in Allan's example, and probably use any HTML dom element (input buttons, button element, div, link, image).

for problem #2, use jQuery's live() function rather than bind(). this will perform bind on elements that were become available throughout the lifetime of your script. http://api.jquery.com/live/
