API methods
StateRestore provides a comprehensive API that is fully integrated with DataTables own API. With the API you can add new states, modify existing ones and of course delete states. Put it all together and you can create a complete UI for StateRestore using your own HTML elements or components.
In this example, the API is used together with the stateRestore event to provide a very basic interface. You can create new states, delete all, and load, edit, replace or remove
individual states.
I wouldn't suggest you use this specific UI for your end users! Rather this is a demonstration to show how the API can be used to create a custom UI.
The stateCreate and statesList buttons have been included as well to show the
interaction between the two UIs - they stay in sync with either being usable.

The Javascript shown below is used to initialise the table shown in this example:
const Dom = DataTable.Dom;
const states = Dom.s('#states');
function populateStateList(table, statesEl) {
statesEl.empty();
table.stateRestore
.states()
.details()
.forEach(s => {
Dom.c('li')
.text(s.name)
.attr('data-state-id', s.id)
.append(Dom.c('button').classAdd('load').text('Load'))
.append(Dom.c('button').classAdd('edit').text('Edit'))
.append(Dom.c('button').classAdd('replace').text('Replace'))
.append(Dom.c('button').classAdd('remove').text('Remove'))
.appendTo(statesEl);
});
}
// Create the DataTable - regular StateRestore buttons are included to show the interaction
const table = new DataTable('#example', {
layout: {
topStart: {
buttons: ['stateCreate', 'statesList', 'pageLength']
}
},
stateRestore: true
});
// List of states - updates based on the `stateRestore` event
table.on('stateRestore', () => populateStateList(table, states));
// Initial population
populateStateList(table, states);
// Event handlers
Dom.s('#add').on('click', function () {
table.stateRestore.add();
});
Dom.s('#deleteAll').on('click', function () {
table.stateRestore.states().remove();
});
states.on('click', 'button.load', function () {
table.stateRestore
.state(this.parentNode.getAttribute('data-state-id'))
.load();
});
states.on('click', 'button.edit', function () {
table.stateRestore
.state(this.parentNode.getAttribute('data-state-id'))
.edit();
});
states.on('click', 'button.replace', function () {
table.stateRestore
.state(this.parentNode.getAttribute('data-state-id'))
.save();
});
states.on('click', 'button.remove', function () {
table.stateRestore
.state(this.parentNode.getAttribute('data-state-id'))
.remove();
});
In addition to the above code, the following Javascript library files are loaded for use in this example:
The HTML shown below is the raw HTML table element, before it has been enhanced by DataTables:
This example uses a little bit of additional CSS beyond what is loaded from the library files (below), in order to correctly display the table. The additional CSS used is shown below:
div.demo-html > button {
margin-bottom: 0.5em;
}
div.demo-html > ul button {
margin-left: 0.5em;
margin-bottom: 0.5em;
}
The following CSS library files are loaded for use in this example to provide the styling of the table:
This table loads data by Ajax. The latest data that has been loaded is shown below. This data will update automatically as any additional data is loaded.
The script used to perform the server-side processing for this table is shown below. Please note that this is just an example script using PHP. Server-side processing scripts can be written in any language, using the protocol described in the DataTables documentation.
