Force Search on Enter

This example demonstrates the behaviour of search.return. When this initialisation option is set to true searches will only be triggered on input elements when the enter key is pressed. The exception to this rule is when selecting a date using the date-picker, this will trigger a search automatically.

When the initialisation option is set to false a search will be triggered on every keypress, unless searchDelay is being implemented. This is the default for SearchBuilder.

The search.return option was introduced in DataTables version 1.11.0, deprecating the searchBuilder.enterSearch initialisation option. For now this option will continue to be supported, however it will be removed in the future. We encourage you to move instead to search.return.

This table loads data by Ajax. The latest data that has been loaded is shown below. This data will update automatically as any additional data is loaded.

The script used to perform the server-side processing for this table is shown below. Please note that this is just an example script using PHP. Server-side processing scripts can be written in any language, using the protocol described in the DataTables documentation.
