Is there a way to do this? As usual, I assume there is but could not find it anywhere.

Awesome,

I stole some of your code and added a date field which is external to the grid:


$('#date_selected_search').on( 'change', function () {

    var v =$(this).val();  // getting search input value

    table.columns(9).search(v).draw();
} );
