query limitation

dear developer, i'm newbie in jquery especially in dataTables. i'm sorry if i re ask this, how i can limit the data from load at first time. O yeah, before that forgive me for my bad english. so here, if i have data with more than 500 rows in database i want to arrange it using datatables, but it makes my application slow on start 'cause the application run the query first, all 500 data, after that paged with dataTable. Nah, for this case, can i limit the query, so when my application load on first time they don't load all data, for example for the first page i only load 50 rows from the database. please help me, my app running slow. again, sorry for my bad english and bad explanation.
