IE8 Fixed Columns throwing an exception

Running in IE8 (non-compatibility mode) FixedColumns is throwing an error. The table is well-formed, but lacks a . It _looks_ like that is where it is choking. Anyone seen this and/or have a workaround?

(client is running IE8 and will _not_ update their workstations)

    Ok, so I found the bugs and eliminated them. It's pretty specific to IE8, but the problem has been addressed.

    What was the bug? If it is in FixedColumns then a patch or pull request with the changes would be warmly welcomed.
