Is JQuery version important when upgrading from DataTables 1.9.1 to 1.10.4?

I am in the process of upgrading from DataTables 1.9.1 to 1.10.4. The jQuery version 1.11.1 is packaged with DataTables 1.10.4. I am using jQuery 1.10.2 presently. I would rather not upgrade to version 1.11.1 yet.
Is there a problem using an older version of jQuery with 1.10.4? Is something that can be done but may be more possible potential problems?
