Footer Column Not Hiding

I am able to hid the first column in my table using..

"aTargets": [0],
"bVisible": false

however it won't hide the first column in my footer. My footer is now shifted 1 cell to the right as it things that first column is there. Anyway to fix this?

It seems to work fine in the hidden column example, if I modify it to do only the first column: http://datatables.net/examples/basic_init/hidden_columns.html . Can you post a link showing it not working please?
