Get TotalRecords Length From another ajax request

Hello I have jquery datatable, and I Use ajax to get data and I use paging plugin. but my data is too large So I don't want to count and select data in my database at the same time. I would like two have two requests to server the first one will get for example first ten recrods and than make another requests that gets total number of rows. so how can I update paging toolbar later when the second request comes up ?
