Datatables .row() does not work after modal reopen

The datatable is being created in bootstrap modal.
it works fine after page load but fail to work if we reopen the modal without refreshing the page.

Can you tell me how to trigger the pop up. It isn't immediately obvious from the interface and I've not had a chance to read through the hundreds of lines of code I'm afraid.
