I think its the name. If you change it to be enum2 or similar, does it then work for you?

Yes, renaming enum to enum2 in utility function and my reference fixed this IE8 issue.

Ah good old IE...

One more test if you would be willing? If you use:

$.fn.dataTable['enum']

does that work in IE8?
