is there anyway to export excel to 'XLS' instead of 'XLSX'

I use a button API to export Excel but how can I export to XLS (excel 2003) instead of 'XLSX'

There isn't an option for that in Buttons at the moment, nor is it something I plan to add.

If you'd like to write an XLS exporter and share it with the community that would be great though .
