Prevent rendering invisible columns

Hi all, I had a table with many columns that are not visible by default, some that are expensive to produce. I've noticed all columns will render upon initialization, even if a column isn't originally visible, this slows down the loading of the page quite a bit.

Is there a simple way to prevent invisible columns from rendering until they are made visible?
