Search A Database and Display results

Hello,

I would like to see an example where there is only an empty search box on a page and you can insert some word in the search box and hit Submit and it will search your database and show the results.

Something like how a search engine works, except it doesn't search the web it searches my database and a particular column(s) and display matching results.

It seems that every example on this site begins with a whole list of database entires to start with.
