I noticed that the DataTables FontAwesome integration does not affect the Responsive plugin, so I've gone ahead and replaced the CSS "icons" in the Bootstrap4 Responsive stylesheet with the appropriate FontAwesome icons. This is the minified script, but you can always prettify it to make it readable if need be.
Just giving back to the community and creator of DataTables for everything they've given me!

Awesome - thank you!

Just registered to say thank you!
Just an update - this works specifically with FontAwesome 4 - FontAwesome 5 (Free or Pro versions) has changed their preferred implementation using JS/SVG rather than webfonts.
On the plus side, the SVG renders more cleanly IMO, but I have been unable to replicate this same process for FA5 despite it being technically possible, but FA themselves warn against it.
