Restrictive select filters

Does anyone know a way to make the select filters that appear at the top of a table be responsive/restrictive to what's been selected by another select? For example let's say column 1 is category and column 2 is subcategory. I would like column 2's select options to be narrowed down based on what column 1's select filter contains. Is that possible? I have been trying to do it via custom, but just wondered if that was possible "out of the box" with DataTables.
