Column Order and Show/Hide Resets when new column is added

I apologize for the lack of a test case here - I can reach out to our developers to get the appropriate code if needed, but we are running into an issue whenever we do a deployment of our code that adds a new column to the table(s) in our modules, it resets the tables that are set to be shown/hidden as well as the order of the tables. Is there something that we should be making sure to include in the code or that I could point the developer to that could help avoid this happening. It is becoming a pain point for some of our clients and I am investigating ways that we might be able to address it.
