Datatables export feature

What exactly is the difference between this https://datatables.net/extensions/buttons/examples/initialisation/export.html and this https://datatables.net/extensions/buttons/examples/html5/simple.html

At the moment, nothing. We used to have support for Flash export in Buttons, and the excel button (for example) would use either the HTML5 export or Flash export button, depending on what libraries were loaded.

So just now excel (and friends) are just aliases for the HTML export buttons.

That might change in future as we introduce support for server-side processing export, which will require new buttons.

As Allan said, it's historical and may change in the future. Agreed, one could be removed, I'll add it to the list.
