Search Builder not triggering AJAX call with Date Before/After/Equals (and negations)

This was previously working...
If I enter a condition such as Date before (some date), no AJAX call is triggered, even after pressing enter. If edit another condition (such as Job Title contains substring) and press enter the search is submitted correctly with all the conditions including the date range.
Search is triggered if the condition is Between, Equals, or their negations.
I don't know where to start debugging this - any ideas?
