I'm sure it is possible to do, although it would require reading and understanding of the Excel specification (unless there is a Flash abstraction library available somewhere - I did have a look when writing TableTools and couldn't find one - or a server-side abstraction library might suit you, but I wanted to keep TableTools on the client-side) - something which would take quite a while, even if I had the opportunity to work on DataTables full time.
