Styling of select menus in browsers is notoriously difficult. Have a look at this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1895476/how-to-style-select-dropdown-with-css-only-without-javascript and others - Google for "css select style". Some browsers might allow it, some might not I'm afraid.
