I find the getting-started documentation underwhelming.

If you try what it says, the result is not what you hoped for, and it is not entirely clear how to get from there to what you want, particularly since there appear to be errors and omissions in the example CSS files (particularly associated with two_button pagination.)

I've written a short article on how to get from the initial result to something closer to what you might want. You can find it at http://britseyeview.com/software/dtgs/. I hope it is helpful.

    Hi britseye,

Nice one - thanks very much for the link and providing a very useful resource for others. I've added your page to the DataTables news feed (on the home page, underneath the example table).

I realise that the CSS structure isn't the best, but unfortunately its a legacy issue from back in 2007 when I started DataTables, and I don't want to change it in 1.x due to backwards compatibility. However in 2.0 it will be changed significantly to make it more "sane". I've also written a blog post about getting basic styling setup: http://datatables.net/blog/Creating_beautiful_and_functional_tables_with_DataTables .

Perhaps you could say what the errors and omissions are in the example files? Anything that doesn't break backwards compatibility I would like to fix, but the stylesheets seem to work okay for me.

    Allan

p.s. You might want to add a table { clear:both } to your CSS since it is floating next to the length changing element at the moment.
