There is a previous thread describing an attempt to use Datatables with Solr. I've used Solr a lot and when it comes to full text search, especially on large text fields, it kills mysql.

In looking at this thread I can't help to think this is messy solution. If you were to write an interface to Solr wouldn't make more sense to have it server side then operating on the client? It seems to me the most elegant solution would be to create something like Ignited Tables for Solr.
