how to activate tabletools buttons using drop-down list without showing the buttons?

I am pretty new to jquery. I make TableTools work on my web site but I'd like to hide those buttons and instead using a drop-down list to activate those buttons. Is there any easy way to do it? A previous post (Customize tabletools buttons) seems able to do this but I still don't know how? Please help!

There isn't a built-in option to TableTools to do this - so you would need to modify the HTML code it creates (or enhance it after it has created it) to do what you are looking for.

Quite nice to be able to offer this as a customisable option in future... But for the moment, you'll need to go hacking :-). It's just a couple of DIV elements to make up the buttons, so it shouldn't be too difficult to do.
