multicolumn sorting only works with 5 columns of data

I am using multicolumn sorting, and everything works great when I use 5 columns of data, but when I try to use 4 or 6 columns, the sorting and filtering functions don't work. Is there a piece of code I need to add to allow for more columns of data to be sortable?

Sorry, to clarify, I am using the exact same code as in the Multicolumn sorting example on Datatables.net. I have used the initialization code for the javascript and have followed the required formatting for the html.
