Idea: Add a dropdown to filter box allowing one to specify which column(s) to filter on.

I think it would be useful to have such a beast so they can target their filtering to only a specific column or small set of columns.
It could default to all columns, so the interface would not have to get much more complicated.

I searched around and found some multi-column filtering (with multiple filter boxes), but I didn't find other posts with this (probably obvious) idea. Did I miss something?

Sounds like a very useful idea. Probably not something that should be built into the DataTables core I don't think - but as a plug-in an excellent idea. A custom filtering plug-in could be used to achieve this.
