Cant get rows displayed

Ive only just started using this great api. As you can see from my novice code...
Anyway the search works but I cant seem to retrieve the rows that are displayed. All I need is the value of the first column of each row displayed. I can get the number by using the length but cant figure out how to get at the data
Also is there a simple way by clicking a button just to show rows which have a value of say Y or N in a particular column
