Custom display of data as a grid in DataTables?

Is there any way to change how Datatables presents the data? I'm struggling to think how to explain this, but I'll do the best I can. Take a look at the "user cards" on this page:

I want to display cards like these using data returned from the server but I want them displayed like this page using Datatables with pagination and the search box:

Yup - I'm afraid the answer is no for now. Perhaps a long way in the future, but not yet, since DataTables is tied to the tag.
