I see that an issue affecting IE 8 only was fixed in the nightly build: //datatables.net/download/build/nightly/jquery.dataTables.min.js?_=f43433e32a179af3e6df39d16fb2e75f
My simple question is, when and how frequently do the nightly builds get promoted to release builds?

Whenever I think they've reached a suitable point - there is no hard and fast rule. In the case of DataTables 1.10.1 with the fix you mention, there are two other fixes I want to get in for 1.10.1, which I hope to do by the end of the week, although can't promise that (in case something else comes up!).
