How can I sort the rows in my DataTable via custom sort order?

I would like to drag and drop rows in my DataTable to create a custom sort order. The rowReordering plugin is great for older versions of DataTables but does not work correctly for version 1.10+ as it does not redraw and does not AJAX the changes.
Has anyone else come up with a plugin? Does 1.10 provide this feature? Anyone who can update the plugin?

I plan to publish such a plug-in in the next month or two, but it isn't currently available (or indeed finished) yet I'm sorry to say.

That would be great since the author of the current Reordering plugin abandoned the project back in 2013.
