How to update drop-down filter when stateSave = true?

I just set stateSave to true. And it works great. However, I have a custom drop-down filter that's not aware of the last selected option when the page is reloaded. Is there anyway to see what filters were saved with stateSave, so that I can write some script to update the filter's selected option?
