Responsive Table with First Column Fixed Width

I am using responsive DataTables to automatically hide columns so that the tables display nicely on mobile devices, collapsing the unused columns.

I would like the first column (project name) to be a fixed width and the rest of the table columns to auto size.

I too am looking for help on this exact problem. Anyone have any ideas? When I fix the first column width the table becomes un-responsive.
