Dynamic Column names from JSON/Rest service

I have a rest service returning a JSON file containing an array called columns with strings which I would like to use to set the column names for my table.

I saw a few posts that were quite old and wondered what the best way of doing this is? Is there a way that you can tell datatables directly using some configuration which column names to use? The other idea would be to write a script that would iterate through the array and add columns names using html.
