Refresh data if necessary

Hi to all!

I need to refresh the data only if the new data are different from the current one.
It's possible?

I load the data via ajax, and every X seconds i check if there are variations, but i would that the data change only if necessary.

Is there a way to verify that the new data are equals to those in the table?
