How do I set default columns to visible and the rest hidden?

I have a table with 30 different columns, but I want to display only 8 columns by default. Is there a way to make all 30 columns available to the user, but default to 8 columns when the page first loads?

I currently have the ColsVi extension added, but I'm not sure how to set a default set of columns as default and the rest hidden, until they select to show the rest of the columns.
