Is it possible to have a Datatable with only one column?

Hi there, I'm trying to put a datatable into a page that will only have one column in it. It appears I'm not able to do this -- there are at least three columns required for the datatable functionality to become animate.

Is there a way around this? I don't want to have two simply empty fields. That looks bad.
