How to move buttons elswere on page OR how to trigger button functionallity programatically

As title says - I'm using a theme that has a nice button section above the main page container and I want to add the builtin button functionallity there (i.e. CSV, PDF, print...) in the form of a dropdown menu. So I would like to know either how to display the buttons there the way I want them or, even better, how to just draw my own buttons and have them trigger builtin buttons' functionallity?
