Linking RowGouping to Column Visibility

I am displaying a few row groupings that can be expanded. I plan to allow only one row grouping to be expanded at a time.
Is it possible to control the columns that get displayed based on the row grouping that is currently open ?

The idea of the table is to display a few columns that are static, then depending on the grouping that has been opened, the number of columns will vary.

Any hints? I am new at datatables and I have already been experimenting with the configuration options.
