Tabs in lightbox editor

Hi Allan,
Back in 2014 the user EMT asked if it is possible to add tabs to the pop up edit page. At the time the answer was not yet, so I wonder if this will be implemented any time soon?
If I can't add some tabs to the pop up edit page I will need to 'redirect' to a custom edit page (my client will not compromise and display less fields).
I prefer to use the usual Edit button rather than add a button to open my custom page as it saves me adding enable/disable on row select, getting the row ID etc. (Yeah I'm lazy).
Is it a simple thing to change the destination action of the Edit button?
Or perhaps there is a better suggestion for handling 40 to 50 fields?
