how to have sub-totals in page footer

I wish to have sub-totals on the page footer.
Basically I am generating a ledger statement for account (similar to a pass book ) so it might span multiple pages. In this case, on every page at the bottom there will be a footer having the total of all transactions till that page. Is it possible? and how?
