Multi-column filtering in Wordpress

We have inline Google spreadsheet plugin installed which uses DataTables. The plugin presents a google sheet and I would like to add the multi-column filtering as described here https://datatables.net/examples/api/multi_filter.html

Can someone explain how or where I place the javacsript? I have tried adding the script to the page but that just shows the code. I have installed a "header & footer" plugin in WP and tried adding the javascript to the head tag but to no avail.

Where am I going wrong? Thanks for any assistance
