how to scroll to row without pagination

Please picture this: you have a simple interface with a html inputtext and a datatable, you write down the row number in the inputtext and the datatable scrolls to it. The user has explicitly asked for no pagination controls (that leads to "paging = false" and therefore can't use the scroller plugin)

How can one programatically scroll to a row in these circumstances?
