EXCEL option event - custom message - loader gif

Hi, how can i detect "excel" option event, in order to send custom message or show loader gif....?, i have datatable with 2.000 rows and 10 columns, so when i press "excel", go about 40 seconds until xlsx file is downloaded. Basically i need reassure the user in order to prevent successive clicks, reload page, etc.
