Wait or loading message for large dataset (not ajax).

We have a very simple table and are using the basic initialization method - the very first example where the data is all in the tr td rows directly in html. We have over 20K records and it takes the browser 20-30 seconds to load. Is there a way to give the user a loading message until the HTML is fully loaded?
