Very basic join question

Hello, I'm quite new to the subject and not sure this is the right place where to ask, but I try:
I have an assignment with two .dbf files which are supposed to be joined by one common variable which, although has different values. How can I see the join relation??
I hope I was clear enough...

What do you think the subject is?

Are you actually using DataTables? *.dbf are likely to be dBase files.
