Why doesn't tab navigation go to header 1st when using KeyTable extension?

I love that tabbed navigation works out of the box for datatables now but we really wanted to have arrow key navigation too.

So I added KeyTable but now the navigation skips over the header row. I need to get to the header row to sort the results.

Is there a way to ensure the header row is accessed 1st when using tab navigation?
