Select2 Tags: Ajax data: Modal Editor: How to programmatically set multiple selected options?

When the Editor modal window opens, I can't figure out how to set Select2 tags as the value of the field.

I have not troubles making an ajax call and populating the Select2 options, when the Editor modal window opens.

For the the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to set the "selected" options as tags in the input field.

Question: How do I set/display Select2 "selected" tag (or tags) from an ajax data source when opening an Editor modal window?

I can make everything else work, I just can't display the selected tags on load/reload.

Please let me know if I can provide more information.
