Dynamic Column Filtering on Repeated Value

I am pretty sure I've seen an example before with a filter that dynamically populates with the unique values of a column's content. For example, a library catalog that has a dynamic filter of author names, and then selecting that name would show all books by that author. Not the example I saw, but sort of what i am looking for if anyone has any leads.
