Datatables interfaces with paging controller

I am researching how to do paging in a controller. I know that Datatables is very powerful at manipulating and presenting large set of data in "pages". But I cannot find any documentation on how to specifically interface with pagination implemented on the controller end. Specifically with a controller that returns links for related pages in a "link" header.

Are there any specific docs on this sort of thing?
